The Positive Closure
System (“PCS”) is a unique, patented
mechanism for closing the lid of the Alumiknox
box. Typical truck tool box closure
mechanisms require force to shut the lid.
Unfortunately, these designs, even under normal
use, often result in bent or misaligned
lids, which must be forced down on both
sides to engage the latches, if not slammed to
close. This malfunction occurs especially when
the truck tool box is full, and tends to get
worse over time.The PCS
lid closure mechanism however, uses cams which
rotate 180 degrees to incrementally engage the
overhead latches to pull the foam-lined lid
down. This cam and latch system works without a
hitch even if the lid is not all the way down in
the closed position. The cams pull the lid down
with increasing force, while compressing both
the foam liner around the contents of the tray
compartment and the bulb weather seal around the
lid.
When the Alumiknox™ lid is
latched down, the foam liner keeps tray contents
immobile, securing a variety of objects from
small hand tools to firearms to fishing rods in
the 4” deep tray compartment. Prized articles
can (and should) be entrusted to the foam
encasement of the PCS, rather than to the jumble
of chains and jacks in the single compartment of
a traditional truck box or somewhere loose in
the truck cab or bed. The liners are reversible,
with “egg crate” and smooth surface sides, with
alternative thickness sizes included to ensure a
tight fit.
The PCS is operated and the
lid is closed tight by simply turning either of
the handles located near each end of the box.
There is no need to walk around the truck to
shut the other side of the lid, nor to ever have
to slam it shut. The PCS is a very durable
mechanism which has never needed adjustment, let
alone replacement, on any of the boxes sold to
West Desert’s customers, even after five years
of use. However, should the need ever arise, PCS
parts are easily replaced with basic hand tools
